From the deck of a private yacht, New York stops being a city you're inside and becomes something you experience from the outside. The skyline becomes a panorama. The Plan
For most proposals, the Hudson Star is the ideal choice. It accommodates up to 12 guests, enough to bring family aboard for the celebration after the question, or to keep it just the two of you with room to breathe. If you're planning a surprise involving a larger group already waiting on board, the Skyline fits up to 30 guests with a full lounge, bar, and a crew experienced in coordinating reveals.
For the most intimate experience, just the two of you and the crew, the Manhattan Mermaid offers a more private, boutique feel at a lower price point.
Sunset departures are the most popular for proposals, and for good reason. The light on New York Harbor between 6:30 and 8:00pm in summer is unlike anything else in the city. Spring and fall offer equally beautiful conditions with fewer competing bookings. We recommend booking 3 to 4 weeks in advance for summer sunset slots, though we accommodate last-minute requests when we can.
The charter itself is the stage, but the details complete it. Champagne and florals can be arranged through our concierge add-on service. If you'd like a photographer hidden on board or positioned at a dock to capture the moment, we can coordinate that too. BYOB is always welcome if you'd prefer to bring your own wine or champagne.

Our crew is briefed privately and will never break the story. Late spring through early fall (May–October) offers the best conditions for a yacht proposal in New York Harbor. Summer sunset departures — typically 6:30–8:00pm — deliver the most dramatic light on the skyline and Statue of Liberty. Fall offers equally stunning views with cooler temperatures and fewer competing bookings. We operate year-round, and winter proposals on an enclosed vessel can be genuinely magical — particularly on clear, cold nights when the city lights reflect on the water.
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. We can help coordinate a photographer, either positioned on the dock to capture your arrival back at Chelsea Piers or aboard the vessel for the full experience. Alternatively, if you have a trusted photographer you'd like to bring, they're welcome aboard as part of your guest count. The crew will coordinate exact timing so the photographer is in position without tipping off your partner.
All Big Apple Charters proposal charters depart from Chelsea Piers, Pier 59, in Manhattan. Parking is available nearby, and the location is easily accessible by subway, cab, or rideshare. We'll provide detailed boarding instructions after booking. The departure point is discreet enough that arriving guests won't immediately register that they're boarding a private yacht, which helps with the element of surprise.
Both options work. BYOB is always welcome — bring your own champagne, wine, or any beverages you'd like. Florals, custom arrangements, and catering are available as concierge add-ons that we coordinate on your behalf. If you have a specific vision — a particular flower, a personalized banner, a custom arrangement — tell us and we'll make it happen. If you want to keep it simple, we handle it all.
